Queer Academy is a 5-part docuseries that celebrates the good parts of being queer. Hosted by Celebrity Treasure Island winner James Mustapic, each episode explores a lesson that LGBTTQIA+ communities have to offer.
I built the full brand identity and animated graphics toolkit for the series — title sequences, lower thirds, episode segment screens, end credits, and bespoke infographics — all designed with a playful, colourful aesthetic inspired by stickers on schoolbooks. The toolkit was built for flexibility, allowing journalists and editors to customise text, colours, and placement across desktop and mobile screen ratios.
Midway through the project, the client requested a distinct typographic look across every asset, so rather than relying on an existing typeface, I individually customised each letterform to create a bespoke font that kept the whole template consistent and production-ready.
Project delivered for Re:News under TVNZ and made with the support of NZ On Air.

Logo and Assets Development

Custom Fonts Development
When the client requested a distinct typographic look across every asset, I individually customised each letterform from an existing typeface — adjusting shape, width, and height to achieve a playful, crafty sticker quality true to the show's spirit. The result was a bespoke font packaged and ready for the client to use consistently across the entire series.

Toolkit Functionality
The graphics toolkit was designed with accessibility in mind. Built for journalists and editors working in After Effects, it allowed them to modify text, colours, and placement without building each asset from scratch. Templates were constructed using AE Expressions and can be accessed through the Essential Graphics feature. This system helps streamline the workflow, reducing repetitive tasks and giving the team freedom to make adjustments without disrupting the overall layout and animation.
