Let's Get It On — Marvin Gaye (Official Music Video)

Animated Music Video, 2024

Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" is one of the most iconic songs ever recorded. Getting to animate its official music video was one of those rare, pinch-yourself moments!

I collaborated with Creatures of Habit - a creative unit led by Monica and Danielle - to bring life to a narrative concept they developed that captures the emotion and soulful essence of Marvin Gaye's singing and lyricism. The abstract visuals follow two lovers longing to connect, weaving symbolism they express feelings of desire, intimacy, and love. As these emotions dance and intertwine, they create a vibrant explosion of colors and movement as they reach the climax of the song.

As one of the animators, I contributed to the illustrated assets and the morphing and connecting sequences, animating each transition to land on the beat.

Two weeks after release, the music video reached one million views on Youtube! πŸŽ‰β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹β€‹

Animation Breakdown

We have 43 scenes in total and strategically organized them into 7 sections, categorizing each scene as either abstract or cinematic. There are lots of ways to tackle each segment, and here are a few examples of how we went about it:
